Enteric coating is a protective layer applied to capsules or tablets that keeps them intact in the stomach and allows them to dissolve later in the intestines.
For probiotics, this matters because stomach acid is very harsh and can destroy a large portion of live bacteria before they reach the gut. Enteric coating helps the probiotic pass through the stomach safely and release where it can interact with the gut environment.
